Liv Elniski is a researcher and writer based in New York City, currently studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She holds an AAS in Advertising, Marketing, and Communications with a minor in Fashion, History, Theory, and Culture from FIT. Currently, Liv is pursuing a degree in International Trade and Marketing while also minoring in Ethnic Dress in a Global Context. She plans to attend graduate school for Fashion and Textile Studies, with aspirations to pursue a career in museums and fashion academia.

Liv’s research interests focus on fashion and costume history, particularly the cultural and social implications of dress. She is especially interested in how fashion and dress shape identity, exploring the complex relationships between sexual and gender identities, culture, politics, and race.

Since August 2024, Liv has been self-publishing research on fashion history through Substack, under the name Victorian Secret. Her work covers topics such as the Western phenomenon of Egyptomania in material culture, queer resistance through dress practices, and interviews with working fashion historians.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Liv contributes as a research intern to the Underpinnings Museums digital archive. Outside of her studies, she is an avid reader, vintage collector, and museum enthusiast.
