LIV ELNISKI
I’m a New York City–based researcher, writer, and events programmer focused on fashion and costume design history. My work centers on how dress shapes identity: culturally, socially, and politically—and how those meanings shift across time.
I hold a BS in International Trade and Marketing for The Fashion Industries from the Fashion Institute of Technology, with a minor in Ethnic Dress in a Global Context, and an AAS in Advertising, Marketing and Communications, with a minor in Fashion History, Theory, and Culture. This Fall, I will begin my MA in Fashion and Textile Studies: History, Theory, and Museum Practice with a focus on curation at FIT.
Since 2024, I’ve published fashion history research on Substack under the name Victorian Secret, where I explore topics such as lesbian and transgender dress history and representations of queerness in film and popular media. I have also contributed to a variety of fashion publications, including 2Late Magazine and Articles of Interest.
My work extends into museum object research and public programming. I intern with the Underpinnings Museum, where I research historical undergarments and contribute writing to the museum’s online collection. I also develop and produce events that connect academic research with broader audiences, from lectures to exhibition tours and symposia.
Outside of my professional work, I’m an avid reader, vintage wearer, and museum enthusiast, who can often be found at New York City theaters screening classic Hollywood films.
