LIV ELNISKI

Liv Elniski is a New York City–based researcher, writer, and event programmer currently studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She holds an AAS in Advertising, Marketing, and Communications with a minor in Fashion, History, Theory, and Culture, and is presently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in International Trade and Marketing alongside a minor in Ethnic Dress in a Global Context. Liv plans to pursue a career in museums and fashion academia.
Her research interests center on fashion and costume design history, in particular the cultural and social implications of dress and its role in shaping identity. Since August 2024, Liv has self-published fashion history research on Substack under the title Victorian Secret, with a focus on lesbian and transgender dress history, and representations of queerness in film and popular media.
In addition to her academic work, Liv also serves as President of FIT’s Fashion History Club and Director of Programming. Under her leadership, the club has hosted programs including “The Textiles, Fashion, and Friendship of Dorothy Liebes and Bonnie Cashin,” “We Can Be Anything We Want: The Trailblazing Fashion of Trans Pioneer Mary Jones,” and “Sari Not Sorry: Handloom Indian Textiles on the Runway and in the Everyday.”
Outside of her studies, Liv is an avid reader, vintage collector, museum enthusiast, and frequent attendee of New York City theaters that screen classic Hollywood films.
